Kindness matters. We hear it all the time. During Thanksgiving and throughout the holidays, giving back is a part of the traditions we all celebrate, enriching our lives by giving to others. Then when January rolls around, so often, it seems we wait for another 11 months before giving back. But what if we resolve to make that happen all year long through our work? Instilling that sense of giving back to the community is fuel in an office environment. Research shows that giving back as a team will bring perspective and a sense of gratitude, cultivating a culture of joy and teamwork while working side by side to help those who need it more than we do. This drove us to create our new exciting new program, Cadman Cares and we’re here to tell you that we’re already having a blast.
Cadman Cares ofifically kicked off in January, where as a team we worked with the Los Angeles Food Bank to process their donations, sorting through and categorizing items and doing quality control. Our team that we affectionately call The Cadman Groupies, had a great time working together, we learned so much about the resources needed by those who don’t always know where their next meal is coming from. We left feeling great about giving back to others who are a part of the greater Los Angeles area facing food insecurity. Together, we processed over 10,000 pounds of food that day, representing 8,372 meals.
In February our focus shifted to Heart Healthy Month. One in four deaths in the U.S. stem from heart disease and that is particularly true when it comes to our senior population. In donated to the American Heart Association, then we rocked our red for the AHA’s #WearRed campaign on Friday February 7th, to help raise awareness and support the AHA who provide essential research and resources to those fighting the battle against heart disease. Our team then brought our giving closer to home, working with seniors at the Park Vista Senior Living Apartments in El Segundo, connecting with them over lunch and creating lots of fun, heart-shaped Valentines together. We are so lucky to be able to spend time with this amazing senior community.
This month, our team will shift focus again, this time to the daunting homeless population in greater Los Angeles, and this time, we ask for your help. There are nearly 1,900 homeless in the greater Long Beach area alone. The Long Beach Rescue Mission is looking to change that. Throughout the month of March, our Cadman Group offices in El Segundo and Long Beach will be collecting items for the Long Beach Rescue Mission and we invite you to join us. Here is a flier with a little more information as to what is needed and how you can help:
We’re excited about the many team events to come. Moving forward into the rest of the year we will be providing monthly services to different entities across the Southland, focusing on giving back and strengthening the community in the areas in which we serve. Our team will be participating in the El Segundo Run For Education, the Skechers Friendship Walk, Beach Cleanup Day, a fundraiser for the Make A Wish Foundation, working with seniors at the Elm Terrace Senior Living Apartments in Long Beach, doing a book drive for under-funded schools and supporting a holiday toy drive, to name a few.
